Rising stars

From Pick and Mix

This week on Pick and Mix, we showcase some of the young musicians currently making their mark on the world.

Trailblazing saxophonist Jess Gillam is only 20 and she's already broken down a few barriers. She's the first saxophone player to be signed by Decca, and the first saxophone finalist in the BBC Young Musician of the Year.

Another 20-year-old making an impression is Sheku Kanneh-Mason. The British cellist became a household name worldwide after performing at the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex at Windsor Castle in 2018.

And we hear from the endlessly versatile Jacob Collier, recently in New Zealand, who shot to fame in 2016 after producing In My Room. The impressive debut album was recorded in his bedroom virtually on his laptop.
