Wellington musician Paperghost decided to release an 'unearthed/embarrassing homemade horror movie' he made when he was twelve, in collaboration with his brother, to mark the release of his new album This Is A Miracle Village. The mini-horror, called 'The Banana', is used as a videoclip for his track Still Talking Tongues.

The man behind the Paperghost moniker is Zach Webber, who says (in all seriousness, of course):

"All the hallmarks of great film making are present, slick editing, a stellar actor who never looks straight at the camera and cutting edge special effects."

WARNING: Contains fake guns and violence towards a banana (albeit an evil banana).

Paperghost's new album This Is A Miracle Village is released on New Zealand experimental label Sonorous Circle. Zach says:

"This album is my first fully instrumental release. Exploring West Coast synthesis combined with collage’d samples, field recordings and live instrumentation. Tape wear and degradation interplay the soundscapes to create an aged warped sound throughout the album. Created after watching too many hippie-cult documentaries the album acts as a kind of crypto soundtrack, a soundtrack for a film that does not exist."

These days, Zach's film-making skills are being put to use recording himself doing live experiments, improvs and jams. This one, called 'Sugar Eyed Beast', uses clattering poly-meter automated percussion combined with samples from an mbira.
