Voices NZ is touring its “Voices of Aotearoa” programme, featuring a blend of western choral repertoire and pacific flavours. David Hamilton’s Karakia of the Stars, referencing the haka, is part of the mix.

The group is halfway through the tour, taking in some famous landmarks and performing in some interesting places, including this flash mob performance of Pokarekare Ana at the Hamburg train station.

The choir has also caught the attention of UK classical music station Classic FM. They recorded Pokarekare Ana at the London BBC Studios earlier this week, which featured Taonga pūoro.

In the coming days Voices NZ will perform in Berlin, Aix-en-Provence and Barcelona.

Before they departed, Karen Grylls and Chief Executive of Choirs Aotearoa New Zealand, Arne Herrmann, dropped in to chat with David Morriss about the big adventure.
