Ever heard of a Piccolo Bass? There are almost no small double basses available in the country, so NZSO bassist Alanna Jones and Wellington bassist Lachlan Radford are doing something about it!

Alanna and Lachlan are the founders of the Wellington Music Education Trust, whose purpose is to facilitate music outreach and education in the greater Wellington region.

Working in partnership with Wellington schools, they’ve launched The Piccolo Bass Project to help make the double bass available for children as young as 6 years old. The pair are currently running a Boosted campaign to raise money to purchase more of the small instruments.

David Morriss talked with Lachlan Radford about the project.
