The case related to state payments of around US$30 million to a law firm, Paraka Lawyers.

Officers with the National Fraud and Anti-Corruption Directorate had sought to arrest Mr O'Neill over the case four years ago.

However a series of legal challenges around the validity of the arrest warrant meant it was never executed.

The Directorate's head, Mathew Damaru, has told the police commissioner that the case against the prime minister is now closed.

He says he intends to take no further action against Mr O'Neill in relation to his alleged role in the payments to Paraka Lawyers.
