The Marshall Islands hosts the Pacific's busiest transshipment port and the authority in charge of managing it and the country's fisheries has big plans for both.

The Marshall Islands Marine Resources Authority is updating the country's strategic and tuna management strategies.

Its director Glen Joseph says tuna is the number one driver of the economy and it is important to revise their management plans so they cater to regional and international obligations and the development of the vessel day scheme.

A New Zealand offshore fisheries advisor, Francisco Blaha, based in Majuro and working with the authority, has been assisting with the development of the new strategies.

He spoke with Koroi Hawkins about the plans and the busy operation in Majuro.
