Chamorros push for pause to US military plans on Guam

From , 5:02 am on 8 July 2019

Guam's Governor Lou Leon Guerrero is under pressure to pause activities related to the United States military build-up.

The US has been planning for years to transfer about 5,000 marines to Guam.

Guam already has a significant US military base with around 7,000 troops which takes up almost a third of the territory.

Johnny Blades reports that local concern over the plans has thrown the indigenous Chamorros people's struggle for control of their own land and culture into sharp focus.
