Syrian refugee trying to help those detained in Nauru and PNG

From , 3:02 pm on 23 August 2019

A Syrian refugee who settled in Canada after months living in limbo at Kuala Lumpur airport now wants to help refugees on Nauru and Papua New Guinea's Manus Island.

But his pleas to Australia - and to the New Zealand government - have so far fallen on deaf ears.

Hassan Al-Kontar was privately sponsored to live in Canada and told Suzie Ferguson he wants to see if the same offer can be extended to refugees detained offshore by Australia.
