Samoa's Health Ministry says if the New Zealand measles outbreak is not brought under control soon, the emerging epidemic will only get worse.

A 14-month toddler with suspected measles died in Apia last week.

The Samoa government has declared a measles outbreak, making news of the boy's death public and appealing for parents to vaccinate their children.
