That's one of themes in a new book by Wellington-based writer Dahlia Malaeulu, to coincide with Samoan language week.
The story, which is aimed at young teens, tells the story of four women who are all confronting their questions of identity.
It was written by Ms Malaeulu in seven days, while she was in coronavirus lockdown.
Dahlia Malaeulu tells our reporter Sela Jane Hopgood it was inspired by the reaction to an article she wrote about her own identity this time last year.
