Petrol: Faafoi wants law change for better deal at pump

New Zealand drivers are being fleeced at the petrol pump, according to a Commerce Commission report.

The market study's found that many fuel companies are highly profitable, and getting better returns than might be considered reasonable.

It also found the $10 billion a year sector isn't as competitive as it could be.

In part, because the main players control much of the infrastructure, have limited incentive to compete on the wholesale market - and it's tough for new players to get in on the game.

Lisa Owen speaks to the Commerce & Consumer Affairs Minister, Kris Faafoi, and asks him if anything in the report came as a surprise.
