Sky Television has secured crucial rugby broadcast rights, in a move likely to shore up its sports war-chest after hemorrhaging cricket and the Rugby World Cup to rival Spark.

Sky will keep the Sanzaar rights that cover all rugby games played between New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and Argentina, including the Investec Rugby Championship, Mitre 10 Cup and Super Rugby tournaments.

It has not disclosed how much it paid, but the deal will see New Zealand Rugby become a minor shareholder in Sky.

Madison Reidy was at Sky TV's Auckland headquarters today and filed this report.
