From Checkpoint, 5:10 pm on 16 October 2019

Police chased a stolen vehicle across Auckland - a pursuit that involved a crash with another car, before it came to an end at the Middlemore train station platform where the driver was tasered.

He was taken to hospital in a serious condition after suffering a medical event.

The police say a 31-year-old man, the alleged driver, is still in hospital under police guard but is no longer in a serious condition.

Two 20-year-old women have been released without charge and a 16-year-old male has been referred to Youth Aid.

The alleged driver will face charges including failing to stop, endangering transport, resisting police, unlawfully taking a vehicle, assault with a blunt instrument, and driving while suspended.

Alex Perrottet and cameraman Nick Monro have the story.
