Barriers, sandbags in Wanaka as locals brace for flooding

Barriers and sand bags are going up in Wanaka as residents and council staff brace for flooding.

Gradually rising water levels are yet to reach the main street, but locals say it's only a matter of time, and they've been busy filling sandbags and taping plastic on shop entrances.

Lake Wanaka has already surpassed the regional council's flooding alert of 280 metres, and it may go higher than previously forecast.
