Fire ban across North Island as dry spell continues

From Checkpoint, 5:40 pm on 14 February 2020

The extreme dry spell affecting many parts of the country continues to bite with water restrictions, fire bans and farms becoming brown and barren dust-bowls.

Soil moisture deficits are worsening across most of the North Island and the upper half of the South Island around Nelson, Marlborough and Canterbury.

And while there may be some rain on the horizon next week, it's not soon enough for those reliant on water.
