Roscoe Taggart is a third generation farmer at Cust in North Canterbury. He took over the running of the family farm five years ago.
The 28-year-old is phasing out the sheep breeding component of the farm his grandfather started in the late 50s so that he can focus more on cropping and precision agriculture. Cereals have become the main income earners on the 730 hectare property that relies on the Waimakariri Irrigation Scheme.
Roscoe is also the Arable chairperson for Federated Farmers in North Canterbury and is a member of the Waimakariri Next Generation Farmers Trust, that was established in response to changes to the rules governing farming in the district.
