Climate change may mean red apples may lose their red pigment

Do you prefer red or green apples? People have traditionally favoured red-skinned apples but soon they may become a luxury food item due to climate change. Warmer temperatures are affecting the pigmentation of apple skins in different regions of the world leading to more pale coloured apples. Indira spoke to David Chagne, a geneticist at Plant and Food Research who explained just how an apple skin gets it colour.
