Foreign Affairs Minister Winston Peters says New Zealand troops in Iraq are as safe as they can be.

His comments come a day after rockets landed approximately three kilometres outside of Camp Taji where New Zealand troops are training Iraqi forces.

No NZDF personnel were in the vicinity of the attack.

RNZ political reporter Jo Moir spoke to Mr Peters a short time ago.
