Pilot recovers after Tasman fires chopper crash

A pilot is recovering after crashing his helicopter while fighting the Tasman fire on Sunday afternoon. The chopper, which was carrying a monsoon bucket, had what is called a "hard landing" just before 3pm. Remarkably, the pilot escaped with only minor injuries. Alan Beck is a Taranaki pilot who has extensive experience with fighting fires - including the Tasman-Nelson fires of the past two weeks and the massive Port Hills blaze in Christchurch in 2017.
