Special needs teacher describes classroom attacks

From Morning Report, 7:23 am on 30 May 2019

A teacher of children with special needs who's been violently attacked in the classroom says she marched in Wednesday's teacher strike for them - rather than for higher pay.

Lou Dickson is a special education co-ordinator at a Southland school - and she's been teaching children with intellectual disabilities and behavioural problems for ten years.

She says the miserly funding to support those children, by successive governments, is preventing them from getting the care and education they deserve.

And she says it's also making her job unsafe.

Lou Dickson speaks to RNZ reporter Lois Williams.
