Teen mother's supporters dismiss Oranga Tamariki inquiry

People supporting a 19-year-old mother fighting to keep her baby are dismissing an internal inquiry into Oranga Tamariki's attempts to take it from her.

Last month, Hawke's Bay hospital went into lockdown as social workers attempted to take the mother's newborn into care.

This sparked widespread complaints about the organisation's practice of removing Māori babies from their whānau.

The Minister for Children, Tracey Martin, has now announced an in-house investigation but much of it won't be released publicly to maintain the family's privacy.

RNZ reporter Jordan Bond has the story.
