Military style semi-auto assault rifle conversion kits still on sale

Carbine kits that convert a standard pistol into a military style semi-automatic assault rifle are still legally on sale. After the March terror attacks in Christchurch millitary style assault rifles and other semi-automatics were banned - but pistols and accessories like 50-round drum magazines, folding stocks and red-dot sights weren't made illegal. The Police Minister Stuart Nash says he's asked for police for advice on whether they should be banned in the next round of gun law changes. The chief executive of retailer Guns NZ, Jim Yates, told our producer Jeremy Wilkinson he asked Inspector Trevor Pullen from the police if he could keep selling the carbine kits and wasn't told he had to stop.
