Government looking into how to limit access to pornography

Proposals to limit New Zealander's access to online pornography could be on the table before the 2020 election.

Internal Affairs Minister Tracey Martin signalled she wants to change the law to make it harder to watch porn - and has now asked officials to look at changing the law.

British lawmakers voted in October not to implement a law known as the "porn block" which would have forced internet users to provide proof of age before they could watch porn.

In 2018 chief censor David Shanks released research that showed porn was too-easy to access and was watched by a quarter of New Zealanders under the age of 12.
