Police treated family harm report request during lockdown as an OIA

From Morning Report, 7:56 am on 2 June 2020

A woman applying for an urgent protection order during lockdown was told a police report she asked for was being treated as an Official Information Act request.

The woman - who RNZ is calling Trish - went to the Wellington police station twice to find out why it was taking so long to get a family harm report.

It turns out her urgent request had been lodged as an OIA that can take 20 days or longer to process - a mistake the police have now apologised for.

Anneke Smith has the full report.

Just a note - we've disguised Trish's voice at her request.
