VIDEO PREMIERE: Lake South ‘Mount Victoria/Tangi-te-keo’

From RNZ Music, 10:00 am on 21 November 2019

The new video from Wellington electro-folk musician Lake South is visually stunning and super fun. ‘Mount Victoria/Tangi-te-keo’ is from his recently released second album Wellington | Te Upoko O Te Ika.

'Mount Victoria/Tangi-te-keo’ is from Lake South's latest album Wellington | Te Upoko O Te Ika.

The song is a stream of “barely conscious” recollections from summers past: “I lived in a shitty flat on Brougham Street and thought everything was so important,” Lake says, “This is a love song for a maunga and the perspective that it offers.”

It's a hill.

We climbed it, we ran down it.

We drove to the lookout and hotboxed it.

We declared our love at the summit.

We stood, defiant, in the gales of the Cook Strait.

Each track on Wellington | Te Upoko O Te Ika is named after a significant geographical location.

Lake has set up a website with an interactive map that lets you wander around Wellington (and Auckland and Toronto) to find his songs. As soon as you get within 500 metres of one of the map’s little read headphone icons, you can hear a song.
