Dr Avril Bell is a Pākeha sociologist who grew up in Kaitaia and wrote her PhD on Pākeha identity. Her current research interests include; the legacy of colonisation in indigenous-settler identity politics and relations, the role of Tāngata Tiriti as allies to Māori and in decolonial work, and critical settler family history.

She has supervised a range of PhD students researching issues of identity politics and settler colonialism. Assoc. Prof. Bell is widely published on all aspects of Pākehā identity and in particular the political tensions, understandings and cross cultural relationships between Pākeha and Māori in Aotearoa/NZ.

Anne McGuire is a sociologist and tour guide with a vast working knowledge of history, both Māori and European, and a deep understanding and passion for Māori culture.

Born and raised in Tolaga Bay, she is currently a Te Aitanga a Hauiti Hauora board member and Hauiti Marae trustee.

She owns and operates Tipuna Tours and is an educator contracted to the Maori Qualifications Service of NZQA, EIT, Ngati Porou Hauora, Maori Qualifications Service, Otago University and Hauora Tairawhiti.

Anne has been a board member of the Funeral Services Training Trust of New Zealand since 2003, and is a member of the Mortuary Advisory Group Hauora Tairāwhiti and Te Hā Trust.
