Engineer suspended after investigation finds him incompetent

From Summer Report, 8:52 am on 15 January 2020

An engineer who wrongly certified seven Tuk Tuk's has been suspended for three years following an investigation.

In 2016, one of the certified Tuk-tuk's was involved in a crash which injured five passengers because it's rollover strength and structure weren't good enough.

The engineer was investigated by the Transport Agency and then the industry body, which found he acted without reasonable care and competence.

Engineering New Zealand's Chief Executive Susan Freeman-Greene told Logan Church the man, Dick Joyce, hadn't actually seen the vehicles when he signed off their inspection certificates.
