New Zealand's largest retailer is proposing to do away with its 11 in-store centres, and moving to filling online orders from large warehouses with everything in one location.

In a statement, attributable to The Warehouse chief executive Pejman Okhovat, the company said it needed to make changes to better serve customers.

"The business is experiencing significant online growth and is seeing changes in customer shopping patterns, all of which require the business to adapt and change itself."

The company said it had around 150 people working in its 11 distribution centres, and will be opening up 100 roles under the new structure.

"Our team members are currently providing feedback to the proposals and this will be considered before any decisions are made" the statement said.

The Warehouse confirmed it is also looking to make changes at its customer service centres, with increased operating hours, and plans to move all queries to its Wiri or Hamilton-based centres.

It said it may also look at sending some of its customer services offshore.
