A community group in Wellington is pushing ahead with legal action over a cycleway that has caused controversy since its inception in 2014.

The cycleway split the community, and the council, with constant debate on what the best option for the route on The Parade in Island Bay would be.

Island Bay Residents' Association wrote to the city council warning it of its intent to seek a judicial review of the bike lane.

President Vicky Greco said she could not comment on the details of any legal proceedings.

She said the community had been totally ignored throughout the entire process - despite being clear about what it wanted to have happen.

They wanted option E, she said, which would have The Parade going back to how it was, but with a marked cycleway on the outside of parked cars, instead of between cars and the curb as it was now.

Legal action would be funded by the community, Ms Greco said.
