Three separate fires in Hastings, including one at the Hawke's Bay Opera House, appear to be linked and are being treated as suspicious.

The senior station officer at the Hastings Fire Station, Mike Peachy, said about 30 firefighters worked on putting out the blaze at the Opera House last night.

He said although the fire itself was quite small, the area was smoke logged and it took a while for firefighters to locate the fire.

Firefighters were called to the blaze, on the ground floor of the three-storey Opera House just after 10pm. It was put out about three hours later.

There are no reports of injuries.

But Fire and Emergency said the fire in the historical building may have been linked to two other fires in bins.

The police are now involved.
