New Plymouth police are searching for a black BMW with a smashed window and a person who could be injured, after reports of a late night argument and gunshots.
A police spokesperson said a caller witnessed a fight on Cook Street in Marfell about midnight.
The caller thought there was gunfire, and an orange Holden Commodore and the BMW drove away.
Officers have spoken to the person connected to the Commodore but still want to find the person who left in the BMW, saying if they were injured they should go to hospital.
Police also would like to hear about sightings of either car around midnight.
