A driver who fled police in Auckland died when the car crashed into a tree.
Police said they signalled the driver to stop on Hill Road, in Manurewa, at 10.08pm yesterday.
The driver fled at speed, and police said they immediately abandoned the chase because of the manner of the driving.
Shortly after the car was found crashed into a tree.
The driver was the sole occupant of the car and died at the scene.
The Independent Police Conduct Authority is investigating the pursuit.
