Earthquake strengthening work is expected to start later this year on Rotorua's Sir Howard Morrison Performing Arts Centre.

The centre, rated at only 25 percent of the new building seismic standard, was closed in November 2017.
The $22.5 million refurbishment project now has the go-ahead after all funding has been secured.
The Rotorua District Council will pay $11.5m with the rest from trusts, foundations and the Lottery Grants Board, which is giving $5.2m.
Construction is expected to get underway in November and take 12 to 18 months.

Rotorua Mayor Steve Chadwick said the project team has done a fantastic job to secure the external funding needed, so the vision can now come to fruition for the community.
"It's all systems go," he said.
The design will expose some of the original parts of the category one heritage building, while introducing a contemporary feel.
Stories of Ngāti Whakaue and Te Arawa and recognition of the legacy of Sir Howard Morrison will also be featured.
