Carrington won her semi-final with the fastest time of the day.
She also won her heat of the K1 500 to progress to the semi-finals.
The men's K2 1000 crew of Max Brown and Kurtis Imrie finished second in their heat to qualify for the semi-finals, while Quaid Thompson was ninth in his semi-final of the K1 1000.
Indian cricketers on top
Ishant Sharma took five wickets, including three in seven balls, as India firmly gained the upper hand over West Indies on the second day of the first test in Antigua.

Sharma (5-42) rattled through West Indies' middle order late in the day, turning the match perhaps decisively in favour of the visitors.
West Indies were 189-8 at stumps in their first innings, still 108 runs behind in reply to India's 297 total.
The match is the first of a two-test series between the teams that is part of the new World Test Championship.

Villa too good for Toffees
Promoted Aston Villa earned their first Premier League points of the season with a 2-0 win over Everton thanks to goals from Wesley and Anwar El Ghazi at Villa Park.
Villa's Brazilian striker Wesley, signed in the close season for a club record $42 million, put them ahead in the 21st minute with a clinical finish after a perfectly timed through ball from Spanish midfielder Jota.
Everton, who could have claimed provisional top spot with a victory, stay on four points.
Villa, back in the top flight after a three-year absence, made sure of the win in stoppage time when, after a break led by Wesley, Dutch substitute El Ghazi slotted home.

Canterbury beaten again
Perenial title contenders Canterbury have suffered their third straight loss in the provincial rugby competition after going down 23-22 to Wellington in the capital.

Both sides scored three tries.
Wellington appeared to have the game sewn up in the second half with a 10-point lead, but Canterbury stormed back to give the hosts a scare.
Wellington now have a win, a loss and a draw.
All Black loosie Vaea Fifita was a late withdrawl for Wellington because of injury; he was seen wearing a knee brace yesterday.
Hesson back in IPL
The former Black Caps coach Mike Hesson has been named as director of cricket for the Indian Premier League team Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Hesson had recently been linked with India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.
Bangalore have axed Gary Kirsten and Ashish Nehra after the team's struggles in the IPL, bringing in Hesson and Australian Simon Katich as head coach.
Hesson coached Kings XI Punjab last season before being released.
Souths and Cowboys have wins
South Sydney have moved back into the top four of the NRL after beating Brisbane 22-20 in Brisbane.
The win snapped a three-match losing streak for the Rabbitohs while also landing a blow to the Broncos' finals hopes in a round 23 clash that lived up to the hype.
The Broncos have provisionally dropped to eighth with two regular season rounds left.
Meanwhile the Penrith Panthers finals hunt appears in freefall after losing 24-10 to the North Queensland Cowboys in Townsville.
Penrith have now lost two games on the trot and are stranded outside the top eight on 22 points, meaning they will likely need to beat the Sydney Roosters next weekend to keep their post-season hopes alive.

McLaughlin quickest again
Supercars supremo Scott McLaughlin has corrected his struggles at The Bend SuperSprint 12 months ago by posting a practice lap record.
McLaughlin and all Ford drivers battled at Tailem Bend's inaugural race last year, with the Kiwi star finishing sixth and 10th.
But the runaway 2019 championship leader atoned for past sins with a blistering lap of 1 minute 48.1044 seconds in South Australia, as Ford drivers Chaz Mostert and Cameron Waters rounded out the podium.
McLaughlin has dominated in his Ford Mustang this season and won 14 of 20 races to lead the drivers' standings by a whopping 433 points ahead of DJR Team Penske teammate Fabian Coulthard.

Torres ends football career
Spain's World Cup-winning striker Fernando Torres ended a glittering 18-year football career last night with his final match for J-League club Sagan Tosu.
Torres, 35, hung up his boots following a 6-1 defeat by a Vissel Kobe side featuring former Spain team mates Andres Iniesta and David Villa.
After the game at a packed Ekimae Real Estate Stadium, Torres - who also played for his boyhood club Atletico Madrid, Liverpool, Chelsea and AC Milan - received a video tribute from former Anfield teammate Steven Gerrard.
Torres, who scored over 100 goals for Atletico in two spells, made his Spain debut in 2003 and got the winner in the Euro 2008 final against Germany before helping them win their first World Cup in 2010 and retain the Euro title in 2012.
He won the Champions League, Europa League and FA Cup with Chelsea plus the Europa league with Atletico, but was at his most prolific for Liverpool where he scored 81 goals in 142 games.

Rangers receive sanction
The Scottish football club Rangers have been ordered by UEFA to close a section of their Ibrox Stadium for this week's Europa League meeting with Legia Warsaw due to racist behaviour which includes "sectarian singing" by their supporters.
European soccer's governing body opened disciplinary proceedings against Rangers club after incidents involving their fans during the second leg of their Europa League qualifier against St Joseph's on July 18.
The UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body ruled on Friday that Rangers must close a section of the stadium containing no fewer than 3000 seats.
