One of the two defendants charged in connection to the death of Yap State's former acting attorney general has been found guilty of murder.
U.S-born Rachelle Bergeron was shot dead on October 14, 2019, outside her home.
Her death came as a shock to the local community and made headlines around the world.
Yap State Court Associate Justice Jonathan Tun said there were 19 charges against defendant Anthony Tun Teteeth.
"There's nineteen counts and nine out of it was guilty and the rest was either lesser included offense or not guilty. The next stage is sentencing which will occur in February," he said.
The Marianas Variety reports Teteeth was acquitted of charges of threats, criminal coercion, and threats to influence official matters.
Tun said the global pandemic meant the case had dragged on for three years.
The hearing for co-defendant Francis Choay Buchun will take place on January 13.
