The Fiji Amateur Boxing Association has almost finalised its list boxers for the 2024 Olympic Games qualification tournament set down for May.

The association is excited about the prospect of facing boxers from the British Royal Marines who have shown interest to have some programs in Suva this month.

Fiji boxing head coach Cameron Todd said the programs against the British boxers should be confirmed this week.

Todd said having the British boxers fight against their local selection would give the opportunity for those named for the Paris Olympics qualification to have much needed competition in the ring.

"We have a team of five boxers going to the Olympics qualifiers at the end of May. It will be very difficult to qualify but we still have a chance," he told RNZ Pacific.

"A team from the British Navy should be here this month. They are bringing 18 boxers and here for two competitions. Everything should be confirmed by Thursday this week.

"Having them would be great for us and it will give our boxers the opportunity to have some good competition."

Todd said the association will also start its regular competition from this weekend.
