The stage is set for Pasifika to celebrate their cultural identity at Auckland Pasifika Festival this weekend.

Pasifika Festival began in 1993 and has grown to become largest celebration of Pacific culture, according to the festval website.

"The largest festival of its kind in the world bringing Pacific communities together, every generation that has been part of the festival over the years reflects the festival's changing faces. Showcasing participants and audiences as they engage with the festival, this collection portrays the true spirit of the Pasifika Festival - its people."

Eleven countries will be represented with a range of cultural performances, traditional arts and crafts and local delicacies on offer.

Event manager Jep Savali told RNZ Pacific it is a show not to be missed.

"You can expect to see the colours, the sights, the smells and the sounds of Pasifika on display for all at this festival so it is an amazing time to showcase and be proud of our culture and showcase it to the world," Savali said.

He said he is proud to have the festival up and running for the second time since Covid-19 restrictions were lifted.

He said the event provides an opportunity for the community to connect with their cultural heritage.

"The heart of this festival is our Pasifika community, and that is at the core and the value of our festival is being able to showcase our communities and celebrate them to the world.

The free family-friendly event kicks off tomorrow morning at Western Springs Park.
