12pm

A fascinating article has been doing the rounds online this week, called ‘Is Old Music Killing New Music’, based on new data showing that songs older than eighteen months now make up 70% of US streaming numbers, and that the new music market is shrinking.

12:15 Te Kaahu

Its Tony Stamps last show hosting for a while so he wanted to check in on some of his favourite up and coming local musicians, see how their summer has been, and get them to suggest a song they’ve been loving. We’re going to start with Theia, the wahine behind the beautiful te reo Maori waiatas of Te Kaahu. First let’s hear her performing the song Rangirara. She plays it forward with Syd's Missing you.

4pm The Mixtape - Andre Upston

Andre Upston has been working as a recording engineer at RNZ for over twenty five years. For the latter part of his career he’s been RNZ's dedicated music engineer in Auckland. So when listeners hear a musical act performing on RNZ, in-studio or at a live concert, it’s often thanks to him.

Andre's helped record albums for Bic Runga, Dudley Benson, Anika Moa, and more, and for his Mixtape he's chosen seven songs he personally recorded.
