2.40 Ragnarock
Formed in 1974 Ragnarok were a local progressive rock band who toured the pub circuit in New Zealand, and released two albums and three singles. Concisting of Ramon York on guitars, Ross Muir on bass and keyboards, Mark Jayet on drums, and André Jayet on Mellotron and Moog, Ragnarok played every pub in the country performing a repertoire sourced from 2 albums. For their debut album they were joined by vocalist Lea Maalfrid who contributed an additional level of sonic and song writing competence.

They were a band who had high production values and owned the first mellotron imported into the country and their own PA. The band’s debut 1974 album has just been re-issued. Founding member Andre Jayet sadly passed away in 2020.. Mark Jayet and Lea Maalfrid talk to Trevor Reekie about Ragnarok for Music 101.

Die Die Die are a New Zealand band who have been making intense guitar music for nineteen years. During that time they’ve been signed to multiple labels, and been through sev-eral bass players, but the core duo of guitarist & vocalist An-drew Wilson and drummer Michael Prain has remained, and on their latest album former bassist Lachlan Anderson re-joined the band. Tony Stamp spoke with Andrew about their new record ‘This is Not an Island Anymore'.

Our guest on the Mixtape today picking their favourite songs is New Zealand-based musician and producer Chelsea Nikkel – known by many as Princess Chelsea.
Her whimsical indie pop/electronic sound has been celebrated here in NZ and internationally too with the huge success of her song ‘Cigarette Duet’ which has been viewed by over 74 million people.
Princess Chelsea is on the eve of finishing her album and heading overseas to tour it.
