Nico and Riley are two boys learning their pepeha (outlining their connections and whakapapa). We learn that Nico's background is one of disconnection. Later the boys bunk off from school and go to the beach where Riley is swept away and lost. As the search goes on Nico observes in shock and grief. We come to understand that Nico is as lost as his ill-fated friend... a well written and powerful story about identity or lack of it.

Swimmers across the entire Auckland region are being advised not to get in the water - and if you look at the Safeswim map - it's a tight mass of black pins.

Auckland council has placed every beach under a black Do Not Swim advisory - due to wastewater contamination and debris.
