Construction is set to get under way at Wellington Airport for a new emergency services centre.

Work on the new modern airport fire station on Coutts Street in Rongotai will start in mid-October.

It follows plans for the airport to develop a new public promenade along Lyall Bay parade.

The projects include landscaping work to improve the streetscape and create a public location designed for plane spotting.

Revitalisation work will also start early next year on the Lyall Bay Junction and Kingsford Smith Street which will include new food and beverage outlets.

Wellington Airport's chief executive Matt Clarke said the airport is passionate about making a world class experience for its passengers and enhancing the neighbourhood with a major upgrade.

"We're proud to be helping drive the revitalisation of this area. Lyall Bay is a popular place for locals and visitors for shopping, dining and spending time at the beach.

"This work is going to make it even more of a jewel in Wellington's crown."

"These are major investments into our local community that will make it a better place to live, work and play," Clarke said.
