One person has died following a crash involving two cars on State Highway 93 in Southland this morning.

Police confirmed the death this afternoon.
Another person was seriously injured when the cars collided between Clinton and Mataura, near Gore, about 11am.
The serious crash unit is investigating.
The road is expected to be closed until some time this afternoon and a detour through Gore is in place.
