A person has died after their car hit a tree in Napier last night.
The person was the sole occupant of the vehicle, when the accident happened on Marine Parade about 10pm.
An investigation into the cause of the crash is underway.
A pedestrian has been seriously injured by a car in central Wellington this morning.
Police and emergency services are at the scene on Oriental Parade and the pedestrian has been taken to hospital. The road is closed and diversions are in place.
Easter road toll rises to four
Meanwhile, a woman involved in a car crash near Waipawa in Hawke's Bay earlier this week has died. The two-vehicle crash occurred at the intersection of Pourerere Road and River Road on Monday evening.
Two people were taken to hospital - and one of them has died.
The woman's death takes the Easter holiday road toll to four fatalities, down from last year's seven.
