Chief district court judge appointed to High Court

The country's chief district court judge has been appointed to the High Court.

The Attorney General David Parker has appointed Jan-Marie Doogue to sit in the High Court at Wellington.

Justice Doogue, who was appointed to her current position in 2011, has received several awards in her role and is an expert on the Hague Convention.

Justice Doogue will be sworn in next month.

The process to find a replacement for Justice Doogue has yet to start.
