A truck carrying chemicals has crashed in the Bay of Plenty, closing State Highway 2 near Wairoa Bridge.
Police say some chemicals have spilled near the bridge in Te Puna but there was no risk to the public.
They expected the road to be closed for some time while emergency services clean up the chemicals.
Detours were place via Moffat Road and Cambridge Road to SH29 for northbound traffic - or via Wairoa Road and Poripori Road to SH29 for southbound traffic.
