This comes after police launched a special operation to disrupt ongoing violence in the area between Black Power and Mongrel Mob.

The raid happened on Friday in Frastertown, a small settlement of about 200 people just north of Wairoa.

Police arrested a 27-year-old local Black Power member, who was due to appear in Gisborne District Court today.

Police found a Heckler & Koch .22 rifle, a Marlin .22 rifle, a Escort Legacy semi-automatic 12-gauge shotgun, a Carl Gustav .308 rifle and ammunition, including shotgun cartridges and rifle rounds of several different calibres.

Wairoa area response manager Senior Sergeant Maui Aben said police were still determining where the guns came from and whether they had been used in any recent firearms incidents in the area.

In the last month, there has been five incidents where guns have been fired at homes around the district.

In June, a man received gunshot injuries and in another incident, two children were asleep in a Raupunga house south of Wairoa when it was fired upon from a vehicle.

The children were not injured.
