One person has died in a house fire in Upper Hutt this morning.

Five fire crews attended the blaze in the Birchville area.
They were called to the scene about 2am and had the fire under control within an hour and a half.
The police and Fire and Emergency NZ investigators, who are conducting a scene examination to determine the cause, say at this stage it does not appear to be suspicious.
