Police have been cleared of using excessive force during a 2019 arrest in Masterton.

The Independent Police Conduct Authority found police behaviour during the arrest was justified.
According to police, the man was aggressive and spat at an officer and after being pepper sprayed.
He was restrained until help arrived.
The man says one of the officers kneed him and the other stomped on his legs.
However, authority chairperson Judge Colin Doherty said there was no evidence excessive force was used.
But he did find the man did not receive adequate medical treatment when taken into custody.
The IPCA also looked into a later incident where the man was punched in the head while in custody and found that officer was acting in self defence and was also justified.
In a statement, police accepted the authority's findings.
