Emergency services were called to a commercial premises on Campbell Street in the suburb of Leamington about 8.45pm last night after reports of an assault.

Detective Sergeant Anthony Hodgson said when they arrived at the scene, police found three people had suffered serious stab-related injuries.

Campbell Street was closed between Burns Street and Shakespeare Street overnight while a scene examination took place. That examination is continuing this morning.

Three victims remain in Waikato Hospital in a stable condition.

Police are not looking for anybody else in relation to the matter.

"What we know at this time is that the alleged offender was known to one of the victims," says Waikato West Area Commander Inspector Will Loughrin in a statement this morning.

Police said they would ensure support was provided to those who were present in the restaurant at the time.

"This was an incredibly traumatic event for those either dining or working at the restaurant and we'll ensure they receive any support required," Loughrin said.
