A road safety charity says people driving home from their Easter holiday this weekend should plan their journey, take breaks and keep below speed limits.

The Easter weekend road toll is currently at zero.

Last year, four people were killed on the roads in the same period.

Brake New Zealand director Caroline Perry said crashes had devastating consequences for families and communities, and everyone had a role to play in keeping the road toll down.

She said it was not only important to focus on reducing deaths and serious injuries on New Zealand roads at holiday weekends, but at all times.

In 2020, the Easter road toll ended at zero for the first time since 2012, but the country was under Covid-19 lockdown.
